Frisk Me Good

Mssngo, a producer from London, dropped this mix (through Goon Club Allstars) a few months back and I still haven't gotten over how good it is. Sampling r&b or even mimicking its sound has been pretty common place in recent electronic music (especially in internet-based scenes), but Mssngo manages to keep it fresh.

His production is fairly lo-fi and his beats are minimal, but all his production choices are spot-on. From the chipmunk-ed r&b vocal samples to the thick basslines, Mssngo manages to create a vibe that is both dreamy and danceable. Despite many producers who utilize similar samples making their songs sound overproduced, Mssngo takes a simpler approach allowing his samples to speak for themselves. His production highlights and brings attention to the original source, letting the choruses from these tracks really stand out while still making a production all its own. Personally my favorite tune is the closing track Skeezers which puts a Rihanna sample ("you better frisk me good/check my panties & my bra") and some straight-forward bell sounds face to face in an almost confrontational way. All in all, these tracks are straight fire and i'd love to hear them pop up in some yall's mixes (to all you dj's out there *winks seductively*).

This mix is intended to be a showcase of his production talents, as all the tracks are produced by Mssngo. A few of these bangers were re-released on his debut EP, which is out through Goon Club Allstars. Don't sleep on Mssngo or this collective/label. They just put out a mix for DISMagazine, which was pretty top-knotch too. Excited to see more from them.
